It's no secret that the upcoming #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2 will expand the already massive galactic setting of the first film with more characters and planets for audiences to discover. But one newcomer to the adventures of the galaxy's most famous A-holes is so large that he will fill the role not of a single character, but that of an entire planet.

#EgoTheLivingPlanet (Kurt Russell) has been confirmed to be an integral part of the sequel's story, but his true form has yet to be seen. To satisfy some people's curiosity, Guardians Of The Galaxy: Volume 2 director James Gunn broke his silence and talked about what to expect from Ego's cinematic appearance.
Ego: The Living VFX Spectacle
While talking to Empire Magazine about the highly-anticipated sequel, Gunn proudly proclaimed that his movie could have the biggest visual effect ever seen in a blockbuster movie:
We have over a trillion polygons on Ego’s planet. It’s the biggest visual effect of all time. There’s nothing even close to it. Which is cool.
Ego is always depicted in the comics as a living land mass that has the power to control his surroundings. It would only make sense for a massive amount of digital resources and work to be placed in creating his cinematic debut.
Kurt Russell will play and voice Ego, though his human appearance seen in the latest trailer and toys has been confirmed to be just an avatar and a representation of himself, not the actual talking planet. As of this writing, there have been no hints about Ego's actual cinematic appearance or how much time the living planet will have onscreen.
Audiences will finally see Ego in a live-action move in May of this year when the sequel hits theaters.

Planet Kurt Russell
The idea of seeing a cosmic Marvel character the size of Ego may have been an impossibility years ago, but now it's a reality that can be judged and seen in just a few months' time. What's more important than seeing Kurt Russell's face on a digitally rendered planet, though, is Ego being a compelling character - with or without the aid of computerized special effects.
Gunn hinted at this and described what drives Ego as a character. Despite Ego being a talking planet, he apparently has some humanity to him. As Gunn said:
I think Ego was a very lonely character out there by himself and went off in search of love and perhaps found it in Quill’s mother.
Guardians Of The Galaxy is expected to bring in more obscure, yet eccentric, characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (#MCU), and Ego could be its biggest and weirdest addition yet.
