I think most can agree with me that Harry Potter is one of the most successful and largest franchise today, even years after the release of the last movie. And now with the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child last summer and the introduction of the new Harry Potter spin-off franchise in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the magic of the wizarding world is beginning to influence the world once more, bringing back the love of the world back to die hard fans.

From the very beginning to when the first Harry Potter book was published in 1997, to the last movie in 2011, the franchise has grown so fast until millions of people all over the world were entranced by the wizarding world. Even 6 years later, Harry Potter fans still rage about the books and movies, collect merchandise, reread and buy newer additions of the books, and have an eagerness to learn more about the Harry Potter world.

But the question is: What makes Harry Potter so special that fans keep coming to the franchise, even after so many years? Here are 5 reasons.

1. The Plot

JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, didn't just create a story, but she created a world. Though the books are far from perfect, any reader who has read the series can see how all the books connect with one another. The second book can connect to the sixth, the fifth to the seventh, the first to the last. No area is left unexplored and even the smallest details are included. Because of this, it makes the world that she created come to life, making it almost seem like reality-- something that not many books can manage to achieve.

2. It's Relatable

The characters all have a trait that readers can relate too. The characters aren't perfect, but they have flawed traits just like we do-- loneliness, fear, outcast-- which makes them able to connect to us on a personal level.

Not only that, but Harry Potter takes place in a school, which is where a majority of the audience who reads Harry Potter will be in. And in that school, children just like the people in Harry Potter will be dealing with mostly the same things, whether it is pride, bullies, or friendship, or horrible teachers, we have all experienced it all. Even if this is a fantastical world, there are many things that connect to reality.

3. Life Lessons

Harry Potter also teaches many good morals that really solidify the basis of the story. Whether it is the message of courage, loyalty, or spirit, Harry Potter gives life lessons to children and adults alike that we can carry into our lives. JK Rowling transforms those morals into wonderful writing that even a child can understand and learn from.

4. Collectables

I don't know about others, but personally, collecting merchandise that relates to the Harry Potter franchise is one of my favourite things to do. Very few other franchises are able to do this, and even if they do, it is very limited. Harry Potter, on the other hand, can sell wands, scarves, cloaks, and trinkets from the books and movies, such as the time turner, broomsticks, etc... They also have food made from the world of Harry Potter, such as Butterbeer or chocolate frogs. All of this makes the world become more alive and helps the reader treasure the wonderful world of Harry Potter.

5. It is a Part of Us

To many, Harry Potter has just simply been there ever since they could remember. It was their childhood; they grew up reading Harry Potter, seeing it. And because many loved it, it became a part of them. The story brings back the nostalgia of time spent on the books and movies. They've made friends along the way, discovered a part of themselves, learned something new. Because of this, Harry Potter is more than just a series, but it is something that is a part of them.
