Brian loves movies...he wants to stare longingly into their eyes and spend the rest of his life with them.

We are already two episodes into the #HeroesvsAliens (stupid name. much prefer #Invasion!) and things have hit the fan. The dominators came up and hard. As Wally poignantly surmised, with a name like the #Dominators, they don’t come in peace.

By the end of the Flash episode, we have seen the team meet, mistrust one another, get mind controlled and abducted. Quite a bit to cover in an hour-long show. Here’s a list of things we have seen and the significance of what it will mean for our stalwart heroes.

Supergirl did little to kick things off

The #Supergirl por, tion of this crossover was a bit of a let down to say the least. Its only contribution was the occasional attempt by Barry and Cisquo to get to Kara’s Earth in an attempt to bring her into the fold. Such a wasted effort. Would it really have been hard to have them show up in the beginning of the episode and have trouble getting back for some reason? Or make up some Macguffin that the heroes would need to use in the other parts for them to stay on Earth 38? It was a strong episode overall, but fans watching simply for the crossover were let down. Not to mention the fact that there are more than one alien on Earth 38. Jonn Jones, who played an integral part of the comic crossover that this story is based on. Shouldn’t he have come along for the ride to Earth 1? There are many ways this episode could have been handled to make a better fit for the event. The easiest of course would be to promote a 3-night event instead of 4.

The President of the United States is assassinated

When aliens come to take over the world, the President is usually at the forefront. Independence Day taught us that when it hits the fan, the President will be there to inspire us to certain victory against all odds. The Dominators thought ahead and took that out of the equation last night by kidnapping and then murdering the POTUS in front of the combined heroes. This sets the stakes much higher than initially thought as it shows that the Dominators may kid and carry on but they do not play. Here’s hoping that Lynda Carter plays the Vice President on this Earth so we can get more cameos.

Martin Stein has a daughter

In the last episode of #LegendsofTomorrow, Martin Stein was getting massive headaches. The crew surmised that in dealing with his younger self, he altered his own future and his brain was adjusting. In this episode, we find out that he had a daughter at some point and these are the memories that are invading his mind. This brings up some interesting questions, such as why is he the only one getting the headaches. Caitlin didn’t get headaches when her Killer Frost powers manifested as far as we know, Diggle didn’t get them when his daughter changed into his son, and Cisquo didn’t get any symptoms when his brother was killed. And if anyone should be affected it would be Cisquo who can access alternate worlds and timelines. This makes me think that Steins actions are causing this particular rift and not the ramifications of Flashpoint. Barry can be blamed for a lot of things but he gets a pass on this one.

The Dominators exist on Kara’s Earth

When Kara Zor El arrived on Earth one, she already knew who the Dominators were and referenced them attacking Krypton. The producers have already acknowledged that the Dominators will come into play on her Earth later in the season, but what iteration will the take. There are cloaked beings out to get Mon El for as yet unrevealed reasons. Perhaps they were the reason he fled Daxam. In one iteration of the comic version of the Dominators formed an alliance with other like-minded races, joined together for the common goal of, well, dominating. We could perhaps see one of the other races in Supergirl. Then again, I’m content with big menacing yellow alien coming to throw the smack down.

Final thoughts

The crossover thus far has been quite fun. The lack of participation from Supergirl was frustrating but the Flash episode quickly took things up to eleven. With two more parts to enjoy, this crossover looks to be quite the epic that the producers have promised us.
