During the cold winter months, there isn’t a whole lot to do. Sure there is the preparation of the holidays and the twenty minutes or so that people actually take their resolutions seriously but what happens in the early weeks until our favorite shows return from winter break?
The obvious answer to that is Netflix and chill. When the significant other gets tired of that, one has to actually watch Netflix. Here’s a list of shows that will carry you over until the drought subsides. They may even make give us reason to watch the network shows to get us through until the Netflix series return.
Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 2
This one just kind of sprung up out of nowhere. I say that in the fact that I had heard nothing about this and then boom news of it was everywhere. Fans were chomping at the bit at the cliffhanger ending of season one. Spoilers: the Robot form of #Voltron was separated by Billy badass King Zarkon and spread across the universe. Season two promises the rejoining of the lion force (natch) and on the run from King Zarkon and the Druul Empire, new worlds to explore and a possible death. The first season is still on Netflix so check it out now before the January 20th Season 2 #premiere.

Lemony Snicket’s A series of Unfortunate Events
For those discontent with the 2004 #theatricalrelease, which took several of the books and blended them together, you’re in luck! Netflix has taken the property and will spread it all out over eight episodes. Featuring an all star cast including Neil Patrick Harris (#HaroldandKumar series) Joan Cusack, Alfre Woodard (#LukeCage), and Catherine O’Hara (#HomeAlone…the good ones) viewers will be taken on a whimsical journey which from the trailer may not be aimed directly at kids. This one drops on January 13th.
Keep an eye on Count Orloff with this 'unfortunate' trailer!
This one is a bit of a cheat as it already dropped in December, however, Troll Hunters came from the mastermind Guillermo Del Toro. The series focuses on a teenager who is chosen by an ancient artifact to be the next troll hunter. Stunning visuals and a quirky story draw audiences into this magical world. The show has a Buffy the Vampire Slayer feel and deals with issues not exclusive to kids but has enough appeal to draw them in as well. It is a DreamWorks joint after all. Featuring an excellent cast of Ron Pearlman (#Hellboy), Kelsey Grammar (#Frasier, #TheSimpsons) Tom Hiddleston (#ThorRagnarok) and an excellent turn by the late Anton Yelchin this series is a must watch for fans of the quirky and macabre.

This one is a bit of a cheat as it doesn’t actually drop until March, but for those that don’t have a regular show to wait for on network television, Iron Fist should be right up their alley. Continuing the ‘street level’ heroes and their ongoing adventures, Iron Fist will bridge the gap between last years, excellent Luke Cage and this years Defenders, The show all of the Marvel Netflix shows have been building towards. In fact, now may be a good time to start binging all of the shows in preparation for Iron Fist so you can make all the connections when the big one drops.
Make your anticipation 'Like unto a thing of iron and check out the teaser!
The series will feature Jason Bateman as a man who moves from a big city to the Ozarks to work off a debt he owes to a Mexican cartel. Little else is known about the series but with Bateman (Arrested Development) attached and directing about half of the episodes, I’m definitely preparing the ass groove in my couch for this one.
