Earlier today, the Justice League #trailer premiered and we got our first glimpse at the team coming together as well as a few other things. Each member is prominently displayed using their powers, we get a sense for the team dynamic, and #Parademons...lots of Parademons.
Batman is funny, and that's okay
One of, the major complaints about the #DarkKnight since his debut in #BVS is that he was too dark. Funnily enough, it wasn't a complaint when #MichaelKeaton did it in 1989. That looks to be addressed here and has been since the initial teases and footage has been shown. And its the right kind of humor. The reason Batman is funny is that he is the straight man. He can be quite hilarious when he is not making a joke. His comedy stems from him not being funny. Everyone remembers the infamous 'one punch' from JLI from the 80s. And its finally officially stated that Batman's superpower is his wealth.
We get a glimpse of Commissioner Gordon and Mera
The trailer also sees the first official onscreen appearance of #JKSimmons as #CommissionerGordon. Although very brief, It is a scene featuring Batman and more of that charming straight man comedy is on display. We get to see that Gordon genuinely cares for Bruce and that Gordon is one of the closest things he will ever get to friendship. On the other end of the spectrum we get to see #AmberHeard's #Mera for the first time onscreen and may I say, Wowza! No actual dialogue is presented, however we do see her showcasing Mera's regal stature. There is no doubt that her character is well represented. #DC looks to be two for two in the strong women dept. Speaking of which...
Wonder Woman shows off her skills
The trailer also showed #WonderWoman doing what she does best, ordering men around. Perhaps I should word that a bit better. It is clear that Wonder Woman is going to be the brains of the operation. She has the most Intel on the enemy which will presumably be revealed in her solo film as well as delegating authority to Bruce to gather the League. Not much of her is shown action wise, most likely because they don't want to draw thunder from her flick, but I am still impressed with what I got. People may complain about #ZachSnyder in general, but the man that brought that powerful a presence onscreen in #GalGadot for Wonder Woman deserves some praise.
Cyborg and Flash get some spotlight
Despite being a major part of the initial footage released, #Flash has been noticeably underplayed since. he had a (literal) one second cameo in #SuicideSquad and that's been about it. We finally get to see extended uses of his powers which are impressive and the 'aw shucks' attitude that makes #BarryAllen tick. While I still prefer #GrantGustin for the role, I am quickly becoming a fan of #EzraMiller. And #Cyborg finally gets some love, which is quite impressive. He is primed to be a key member to the plot as what we know so far is that #Darksied has sent #Steppenwolf and a boatload of Parademons to Earth to collect mother boxes. Cyborg is 90% mother box. Using his jet pack, covering his face to enter orbit, and of course blasting aforementioned Parademons shows that Cyborg is going to be a breakout star.
No one's laughing at Aquaman now
Ever since the #SuperFriends cartoon, people have constantly made fun of #Aquaman as he "only talks to fish". I myself have been guilty of this. Even when I was reading Grant Morrison's #JLA he was my least favorite member. Sure there were stories featuring him I thought were cool but nothing to make me say, "Aquaman is the reason man was blessed with the gift of comics...until now. Ever since the initial footage was released, Aquaman has slowly been burrowing into my and a lot of fans hearts. His official pic finally wearing the armor is by far the best looking of the bunch and finally seeing him in action has cemented him as a fan favorite. #GeoffJohns did wonders for the character in his ongoing series and I’m sure him being in charge of the films now is no coincidence concerning the badassery of Aquaman.
While this is only an initial look and literally first thoughts, I love this trailer. Granted I am a DC fan to the bone (I'll even defend BVS...to a point), I think it's safe to say that DC is on the right track. Granted, DC always knows how to make a great trailer and the final films have been less than advertised, with the promotion of Geoff Johns, it seems like us comic fans are in for some smooth sailing.
