With the ban on Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) being lifted in the spring of 2016, and the first few events coming to the state of New York, MMA’s Word Series of Fighting (WSOF) looks to put the final stamp of approval on the sport happening professionally in New York at the end of 2016. Combate Americas and the UFC have already held events once the green light was lit for pro events this past fall and the stream of MMA for 2016 carries over through the New Year.

WSOF 34 or as it has become known is one of the greatest cards the promotion has put together for their first event in New York, at Madison Square Garden. UFC 205 which had multiple titles on the line was one of greatest cards the promotion had in 2016. WSOF looks to do the same having four titles on the line in their New Year’s Eve event including two-division champion, David Branch and undefeated lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. The long awaited return of Bantamweight Champion Marlon Moraes is also on the card as well as a welterweight main event between Champion Jon Fitch and Jake Shields.

Bellator MMA has also stated they plan on making their way to New York during the second or third quarter of 2017 so closing out the year with an MMA event is symbolic for MMA fans given the struggle to bring MMA to New York. Once the promotions all get there first event in, the sport will be as close to mainstream as it has ever been. A new year brings new possibilities and WSOF bringing another big card to the Garden is a great way for MMA fans to close out 2016 and let New York know it is here to stay.
