By far 2016 has been a bad or good year for comic-book movies.Depending on the opinion. From Deadpool to Doctor Strange these movies were all defined by their big bads. There's a saying that a hero is great as a villain, stating this MCU's Phase 3 had a lot of improvement over the #MCU 'villain problem'. And heroes and defined by their villains. That said let's rank these comic-book baddies from the worst to best.
Apocalypse may have been a powerful villain in the comics and the movie, but he was an underdeveloped villain in the movie. That's why he's at bottom of the list,Oscar Isaac's performance wasn't that great plus Apocalypse should be more like his comic-book counterpart.
Doomsday-Batman vs Superman:Dawn Of Justice
There were more criticisms about this monster than the movie, fans wanted a terrifying monster and all the fans got was a goliath who looked liked a mix of abomination and a ninja turtle.Despite being all powerful Doomsday suffers the same fate as Apocalypse.
Lex Luthor-Dawn Of Justice
Jesse Eisenberg's performance wasn't what fans expected, that was until the very end the fans had seen a bald Lex Luthor.Since Luthor created Doomsday Luthor takes a credit for killing Superman.Being a scientific genius helps, but Luthor didn't have a superpower. That's why he's at the bottom of the list.Hopefully, we see more Lex in Justice League. And that Jesse Eisenberg redeems his performance in #JusticeLeague.
Deadpool was a great movie by itself but its villain wasn't that great.Hopefully, the next movie should redeem its franchise.Otherwise, #Deadpool was the astounding movie of the year. It was original, was its own thing being a standalone movie by itself It was great that Deadpool didn't set up the X-Men franchise.Ryan Reynolds performance was spot on. Nuff said!
While, Enchantress did introduce magic into the #DCEU the portrayal of the character was bad.I would say probably the worst villain on the DCEU. The performance could have been better.Hopefully, Suicide Squad 2 will have a better villain as time goes.
We all loved Mad's Mikkelsen performance of Kaelicius on Doctor Strange.Kaelicius was a tremendous villain for Doctor Strange to face. This is what we want to see from #Marvel.Accept the villain lacked what motivates him to do horrible things.Other than that Kaelicius is a force to be reckoned with.
Baron Zemo- Captain America:Civil War
Baron Zemo played by Daniel Brühl did a terrific job doing justice to the villain. Not only was Baron Zemo a three-dimensional villain in the #MCU, Baron was a very complicated character who was driven by vengeance after his family died in Avengers: Age of Ultron.Secretly, Zemo was the one pulling strings in Civil War.Baron Zemo adds a whole new depth to the MCU.Marvel needs more sophisticated villains like Baron Zemo.
Likewise, Baron Zemo is a great solution to Marvel's so-called 'villain problem'.If Marvel can bring a great villain as great as Baron Zemo then the audiences are in for a ride. While #Fox and #DCEU struggled with their villains here's hoping that all adjusts in 2017.
Is Baron Zemo a great definition for how a villain should be? Feel free to share your thoughts on the comment section below!
