It's been 13 years since we last saw our favorite Daywalker, #Blade, turn a creepy vampire into a sparkling pile fiery ash. How we wish we could easily forget that mind numbing movie Blade: Trinity. It was so bad, but maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel? #AnthonyMackie was recently interviewed at Wizard World Cleveland, and he revealed his thoughts on his future in comic book movies. When he was asked if he wanted to play any other characters, his was his response:
“I pretty much want to grow up to be Wesley Snipes. If we can bring back Blade, I’d definitely be Blade in every Blade movie.”
Now that Marvel owns the rights to the Blade character once again, fans are clamoring to see more of the Daywalker. We've already seen how #Marvel has handled #GhostRider in Marvel: Agents of Shield, and we've even heard rumors of a Netflix series starring Blade. Wesley Snipes has even dropped a few mysterious posts about a possible new Blade movie.

Anthony Mackie's Contract Under Marvel
Given his current obligations, could Anthony Mackie actually play Blade? He does have a contract under Marvel to play the part of Sam Wilson, aka the winged superhero Falcon. We know that he's played the part in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, and Captain America: Civil War. But it is unknown how many years or movies he has left in his contract. However, Marvel could renegotiate his contract. It's something they will have to go through his attorney and amended to allow for a separate contract to be entered into for playing the role of Blade.
This sounds like a lot of red tape for Marvel to go through just so Mackie could take the mantle from Mr. Snipes. Why would do they do that? Anthony Mackie has already established himself as The Falcon, and fans are already familiar with Wesley Snipes as Blade.
The Falcon Becomes Captain America?
Even if Anthony Mackie is a huge Wesley Snipes fan, he has an opportunity to become a greater symbol. In the comic books, after Captain America is killed, James "Bucky" Barnes AKA The Winter Soldier takes over the mantle of Captain America. But later on, after Captain America shrivels to that of an old man because of his super-serum removed by the villain the Iron Nail, it is Sam Wilson who become the new Captain America. This was the first time that a person of color held the moniker officially.
So why would Anthony Mackie want to play Blade when there is a possibility that he could become the next #CaptainAmerica in the upcoming #MCU. It would be a great honor to play such a character and demonstrate the diversity that Marvel is always looking for in its properties. Look at all the controversy about Marvel's Netflix series Iron Fist. There was so much discussion about a white person playing a martial artist. There were some fans that wanted to see an Asian actor play the role of #IronFist.

Could Anthony Mackie Ever Play Blade?
Hypothetically, Marvel could give him a chance to play another character. I don't mean through legal terms. Let's think in terms of comic book movie magic. We've already seen twisted dream sequences in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. It is possible that Marvel could create an alternate world for something like Mackie playing a version of Blade. With Thanos appearing in Avengers: Infinity War, he could do it the power of The Reality Gem from the Aether shown in Thor: The Dark World.
In the The Infinity Gauntlet limited series from Marvel, Thanos did use the Infinity Gauntlet to erase half the population of the universe. It's not too far fetched for the writers of Avengers: Infinity War to allow #Thanos to bend reality and cause various characters to morph into other known Marvel characters. But that's just the super fan in me starting to geek-out.

- Does Thanos Already Have an Infinity Stone?
Anthony Mackie will have to do more than just slap on a pair of sunglasses and run around with some Halloween vampire fangs. Unless Anthony Mackie can swipe the Infinity Gauntlet away from Thanos and alter his reality, looks like his chances of playing Blade are slim to none. Wesley Snipe will forever be Blade in my heart. (Just make sure I never watch Blade: Trinity again.)
