Thor's journey through the MCU has been full of twists and turns ever since his introduction in 2011. He's battled metal killing machines, his own brother (twice), a dark elf with a thirst for vengeance, and a sentient robot. Now, he's gearing up to battle the Goddess of Death herself (as well as some other folks) in Thor: Ragnarok, the third installment in his solo trilogy, directed by Taika Waititi.
There have been quite a few story details released throughout the past few months, but the film is expected to be much more massive than anything we've seen in the MCU so far, and there's still a lot of information to unpack as a result. Fortunately, we just got some new details to get us even more hyped to see Thor's third solo adventure.
A New Trailer From China Is Extremely Action-Focused
With under two months until Ragnarok hits U.S. theaters, the film now has an official release date in China too. To celebrate the occasion, #Marvel released a brand new trailer. Check it out in all of its godly glory:
While the trailer is mostly comprised of scenes we've seen in past teasers, there are three new shots that give us exciting glimpses into the movie's action sequences.
Hela Throws Thor Out Of The Bifrost
The Odinson has a lot on his plate. He has to prevent the destruction of Asgard (and of the world), find his father, defeat Surtur and find some way to stop Hela. Unfortunately for the musclebound superhero, none of those tasks will be easy.
We already got an idea of Hela's power when she shattered Mjölnr into a million pieces during Ragnarok's first trailer, but this teaser shows us more of how much of a tough time the God of Thunder will have battling her. We see a scene where she and Thor are battling inside what looks like the Bifrost, as the bridge transports them to an unknown location. Hela overpowers our hero and sends him violently flying out of the bridge.
This little moment makes figuring out the plot of the movie an even more difficult endeavor. Back in July, Marvel released a new trailer, which showed Hela chasing Thor and Loki through the Bifrost's energy beam. The villain dispatched the God of Mischief pretty quickly, but we didn't know what happened with Thor. This little moment finally shows it, but it begs the question: What happens after this?
Thor is still sporting his golden locks and tradition Asgardian armor, so I'm curious to see whether this is right before he lands on the Grandmaster's planet. And if that's indeed the case, does that mean that Thor pairs up with Loki even before getting trapped as a gladiator? As opposed to other marketing campaigns for #superhero films, Ragnarok's has made it quite hard to figure out the timeline, so we'll have to wait until the film comes out for some answers.
Valkyrie Vs. Hela
All the Ragnarok trailers so far have teased a confrontation between the Valkyries and Hela, as the loyal Asgardian soldiers arrive on the Goddess of Death's world to try and take her down. But this new teaser reveals a much more personal confrontation between the two. The characters trade blows while standing on the Bifrost bridge. As you might have imagined, though, #Hela gets the upper hand, and the result is quite tough for #Valkyrie.
There's fortunately still some hope for our hero, if we take into account her immense power level.
A Riot On The Grandmaster's Planet
The Grandmaster is a cruel dictator. His gladiators are kept in line through violence and extreme torture methods that would be enough to kill any normal human being. #Thor went through that harrowing experience after becoming the Grandmaster's new fighter — but what the villain wasn't counting on was the impact the God of Thunder would have in his dictatorship.
Apparently, Thor's arrival shook things up quite a bit, because at one point, the trailer shows a riot going on, presumably in the #Grandmaster's domain. This scene is shown in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment in the trailer that was released this past July, but this gives us a better idea of what Taika Waititi's Korg is up against:
Admittedly, this is speculation because we don't have all the story details. But that looks a whole lot like #JeffGoldblumb's Gladiatorial planet.
I can't tell you how excited I get the more I see teases for battles like the ones shown in this new trailer. Fans are eager to see a more cosmic and exciting approach to the God of Thunder, because that's what he's all about in the comics. So seeing that new dynamic coming to life is beyond thrilling.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
What did you think of these new teases for the action-packed moments in the film? Which one of these scenes are you most looking forward to seeing? Let me know in the comments!
