I'm an avid movie fan whose favorite movie ever is Back to the Future. I'm the type of person that if I like a TV show, I'll binge watch it

There's a lot riding on this year's Justice League. The film has to bring together six heroes (yep, I'm counting Superman), introduce a larger cosmic world with the arrival of Steppenwolf and Apokolips, and overall be a fun experience for viewers –– especially after the DCEU's constant critical duds. Understandably, fans (including yours truly) believed the movie would have a significant runtime to accommodate all of these necessary factors — and for a while, that seemed to be the case.

Back in March, for example, IMDb's listing for Justice League revealed the superhero epic clocked in at a massive 2 hours, 51 minutes. Plenty of us got excited by the prospect of getting so much time with the universe's most powerful heroes, but as it turns out, that wasn't the actual running time ... or at least, not the film's final one.

'Justice League' Is Almost Exactly Two Hours Long

AMC Theaters and Regal Cinemas are both reporting that Justice League clocks in at 121 minutes, or 2 hours, 1 minute, although hasn't confirmed this yet. You may be wondering how that compares to other chapters in the DC Extended Universe, so here are the runtimes of the past four installments:

  • Man of Steel: 143 minutes (2 hours, 23 minutes)
  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: 151 minutes (2 hours, 31 minutes)
  • Suicide Squad: 123 minutes (2 hours, 3 minutes)
  • Wonder Woman: 141 minutes (2 hours, 21 minutes)

That, my fellow geeks, makes Justice League the shortest installment in the yet — edging out Suicide Squad by a mere two minutes.

Some fans could feel there won't be enough time to fit everything the movie is supposed to deal with. That's an understandable concern; after all, if there's one superhero flick that would justify a longer runtime, it would be Justice League.

But fret not, faithful viewers, because the film's short length isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it could end up benefitting the project. Admittedly, there isn't a lot we know about the story, but I feel optimistic about getting a more concise plot where the heroes meet, work out their differences, and then finally come together to defend Earth. Will less be more? As someone who's been waiting for this movie for years, I'm crossing my fingers for that to be the case.

Now, whether this runtime was a result of 's new direction, that's tough to say. But seeing just how much the project seemingly changed under his leadership, including the cutting of some major characters, it's not unreasonable to assume that he could have had a hand in making the film a shorter adventure.

How do you feel about Justice League being the shortest DCEU installment yet? Would you have preferred it to be longer than it is? Let me know in the comments!
