Ok, from the start, I, personally, was a little hesitant about seeing this one. An off-shoot of [The Avengers](movie:9040) universe, was it going to be as good? Was it going to have a decent storyline? I was afraid all the best parts were going to be in the trailers, boy was I wrong. I figured the action and special effects were going to be awesome, I mean, lets face it, it's Marvel Studios, I would expect no less. So we're going to start with the Good and End with the Ugly on this one.
The Special Effects kicked serious butt. I mean explosions left and right, an awesome soundtrack, and great acting. The comedy was to die for. It will have you laughing yourself out of your seat from start to finish.
Now, I honestly didn't know who Chris Pratt was before this movie, i haven't seen anything with him in it. For those who didn't know who he was, after they see this movie, they'll never forget who he is. He gives great one liners, and pulls off the "chaotic good" character type very well.
Now what can I say about this woman but, holy oh my dear lord. Gorgeous, even in green. Something about a woman who can do martial arts the way she pulls this off is very sexy. They could not have chosen a better actress to play this part. Cold and determined, one thing is for sure, don't make her mad.
Now I have to admit, when I heard Jason Mamoa was the frontrunner to play this part, I was excited. I enjoyed watching him in Stargate: Atlantis. The part would be perfect. Then I heard he turned it down in favor of something else and i was kind of let down. But I am extremely glad the part went to Dave Bautista. Because, I am not sure Jason could have pulled this one off. Jason has the intimidation factor, don't get me wrong, But i am not sure Jason could have pulled off the comedy part of it. I could be wrong, but i guess we'll never know.
Now, whoever thought to make a raccoon the comedic relief is a genius. And they could not have cast a better guy than Bradley Cooper. Honestly, the picture of a Raccoon holding a BFG (big freaking gun) that is bigger than him is amusing to begin with. But with the witty one liners and the insults and his whole fascination with explosions is just awesome.
And last on the good list, and certainly not least, Groot. He is the character that, when you first see him you're very unsure about, but as the movie progresses, you can't help but love this walking tree. He will definitely make you smile and laugh so hard you're crying. But don't let his soft personality fool you, he will whoop some butt if you rub him the wrong way.
Now for the bad. I was a little under impressed with our bad guy here.
I felt he was a little over the top. I'm not sure if it was the fact that he had too many lines? Or maybe it was the lines he had? Or if it was the way it was delivered, but i felt the bad guy could have been done so much better. In my opinion, i felt Nebula
was a better foe than Ronan.
Unfortunately, it wasn't really worth seeing in 3D. I figured, lots of big explosions, awesome special effects, 3D would be fantastic, alas i was let down.
[Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073) is a must see. On a scale of 10, i'd rank it a solid 8.5. Were it not for the over-the-top bad guy and the lack of 3D awesomeness, I'd of probably ranked it a 10. Well worth seeing in theaters, and i have every intention of seeing it again. And you know me, if it's worth me seeing it in theaters twice, it's worth you seeing it at least once.
