Yes I know we haven't hit the climax of phase two with Avengers: Age of Ultron releasing next year, however Im probably going to write a full review on that movie anyway. Also Im pretty sure it will be the best movie of phase two just like the first Avengers movie was the best of phase one. So even if this list did include Age of Ultron it would most likely be number one on my ranked list anyway.
With phase two coming to its closure can I say its been better than phase one. Well yes and no, phase two didn't get off to a good start for me but it did improve. In phase one it was only the first Iron Man movie and the Avengers that I really enjoyed. The first Captain America and Thor movie were kind of just your usual origins story which I was never really that hyped about seeing in the first place. Then you had Iron Man 2 which for me was below average. So in phase one only two movies really stood out to me. But then in phase two all of the movies have been great so far except from one. So although in the long run phase two has been better, none of the movies for me quite stood up to the Avengers.
Anyway here's my ranked list of phase two movies:
Iron Man 3
Sure most of you probably saw this coming. Now obviously people liked this movie as it is the second highest grossing Marvel movie to date which you can't blame, Tony Stark is definitely the most popular character going in the MCU. Iron Man has been an increasingly fast success since the first movie and I bet the Avengers movie would have made less if Iron Man wasn't in it. Now of course Im one of the ones who hated the Mandarin twist but it wasn't just that which made it a bad film for me. I just didn't like how the story was written. Tony went from being a top character in [The Avengers](movie:9040) movie to a broken man in this movie. It was like he was depressed yet they were still trying to force comedy out of him. I liked the humour RDJ brings to the role but it didn't work that well for me in this movie. I also didn't like how we got another movie like Iron Man 2 were the story seemed to mainly focus just Tony Stark's development. In the Avengers we got to see Iron Man showing off his capabilities yet in this movie it was like he forgot all of that. There was more Iron Man action in this movie compared to Iron Man 2 but it just still fell flat for me. It also felt like the writers forgot that this movie was part of a Cinematic Universe.
Thor: The Dark World
When I first seen [Thor: The Dark World](movie:206462), I thought it was amazing and potentially one of Marvels best. After seeing it a second time I realised it wasn't as good as the first time around, although it still was a great movie. Big improvement after Iron Man 3. I'll admit the things I wasn't keen on about this movie were some of the same things I didn't really like from the first movie. And this is Darcy and the relationship between Thor and Jane. Then there was Malekith who wasn't that great but good enough I guess. Apart from that I thought this was a great film. The humour surrounding Thor was brilliant, as well as the laughs between Thor and Loki. I enjoyed seeing more of this film take place away from earth, seeing the dark world and Asgard. And then the story was pretty decent too.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
A lot of people are saying this is one of the MCU's best movies. Some say it was better than the Avengers. Im not gonna go too far and say that but it was a really good movie and definitely one of the best the Cinematic Universe has to offer so far. One of the main things I really enjoyed about this movie was how Steve Rogers had developed. From that guy in the Avengers movie that no one really cared about to being the ultimate badass. The fighting choreography was fantastic in this movie, some of the best I've ever seen in a comic book movie if not the best. Kind of wish I'd see Batman in a live action movie fight like Cap did in this movie. The fights between Cap and the Winter Soldier were flawless. Great film, a lot went down in this movie with the fall of Shield, which could have some major consequences later in the MCU with the government and the world. Can't wait to see what the Russo brothers plan next for the third movie. Though I do have one query which is the secondary title being 'The Winter Soldier'. To me the Winter Soldier didn't have enough to do with the movie to get it named after him, when the real villains in this movie was Hydra. But then thats probably because they wanted to surprise people with the return of Hydra.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Ok so I was debating whether if this movie should have came ahead of Captain America and you know what, it definitely does. The introduction to a new team and the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. This movie really changes things because now the MCU shouldn't fail with any of their movies financially after GOTG. For me this movie is the closest for being better than the Avengers. James Gunn wrote the perfect script for this first movie. Good handful of humour, action, character development and of course THANOS!!! I could go on and say more but there's really no need as the whole movie was just amazing.
So there's my list, if you agree then thats awesome, if not please do give your views. The big question for me though is will Age of Ultron rise to be the best movie of the MCU so far.
