Today's world is a confusing one, but luckily there are two things that will always unite people: food and our obsession with #popculture — and often, those two things go hand-in-hand. In order to remind us what an important role food plays in the lives of pop culture's greatest products, artist Joshua Budich has created a stunning art show featuring foods from nearly every fandom. The results are fantastic. Take a look:
Deadpool & Chimichanga
#Deadpool took the world by storm with his first live action movie. One of the things comic book fans love most about the Merc with a Mouth is his love with chimichangas. Sure he loves making pancakes, but when it comes to eating, nothing tastes better than a chimichanga.
Stranger Things & Eggo Waffles
As soon as Netflix's smash hit #StrangerThings dropped, people started posting amazing cosplay images of themselves dressed as the telepathic Eleven and no cosplay would be complete without a box of Eggo waffles. The waffles were such an important part of her character, that the appearance of a box at the end of series gave fans hope (trying not to spoil anything here, but if you haven't seen it yet, you have a problem).
Kiki's Delivery Service & Cake
Classic Miyazaki anime Kiki's Delivery Service was widely popular not only in Japan but around the world after its release in the 1989. The movie won several awards at the time and its success can still be seen today, as any self-proclaimed fan of anime will instantly recognize where this cake comes from.
Mr. Robot & Ron's Coffee
#MrRobot is currently one of the most critically acclaimed shows on television. It's hard to be a vigilante hacker, so it's any reasonable that Elliot would need some Ron's Coffee to get him through his long days and nights.
Sesame Street & Cookies
Cookie Monster and cookies. Do I even need to say more? I really enjoy the texture in this image; Cookie Monster looks amazing and that cookie looks good enough to eat.
Star Wars & Bantha Milk
Probably the least recognizable food item on the list, Bantha Milk made its appearance in the very first #StarWars movie as Luke Skywalker poured himself a glass of the chilled blue liquid and Darth Vader is pictured with it above. Perhaps a love of Bantha Milk might have been something the father and son could have bonded over, instead of bonding over having their hands cut off.
The Simpsons & Doughnut
#ThSimpsons iconic pink donut is so recognizable that even people who have never seen a single episode can tell you what it's from. When you're going to draw something as recognizable as Homer Simpson, it's almost impossible to not include his favorite food.
The Avengers & Shawarma
Finishing off the list of my favorite of the illustrations is this one of the #Avengers' favorite snack, shawarma. The image of the Avengers sitting around a table chowing down became popular after movie goers waited through all of the credits just to see the team munching on some delicious-looking wraps.
I absolutely love the idea of showing how much food has shaped our pop culture. It might not have been something you've thought about before, but many properties would be completely different without the inclusion of these foods. If you liked Budich's work and would like to see more (or purchase some prints to hang in your home) you can check it out here or, if you happen to be in the Los Angeles area, you can go to his art show now until February 11th.
