Lin-Manuel Miranda, the genius mind behind Hamilton, the music of Moana and the co-star of Mary Poppins Returns, is headed to Duckburg. On Twitter, the star confirmed that he is voicing a fan favorite character in the revival of Disney's hit 1980s animated series #DuckTales, set to air this summer on Disney XD:
Miranda is joining a talented voice cast that includes David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck, Danny Pudi as Huey, Ben Schwartz as Dewey, Bobby Moynihan as Louie, Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack, Kate Micucci as Webby Vanderquack, and Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley.
Lin-Manuel Miranda And Disney Are A Perfect Match
Gizmoduck was a fan favorite character from the original series. This casting news is a happy surprise, as Miranda's plate is quite full with enormous projects. However, nobody should be too surprised to see Miranda lending his voice to another Disney project, as his new partnership with the company is allowing him to utilize all aspects of his immense talent.
DuckTales marks the fifth confirmed Disney project for Miranda; he wrote a song (and worked on additional music) for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, wrote original songs for Moana, will be the composer and producer of the live-action The Little Mermaid, and he will be co-starring alongside Emily Blunt as Jack in Mary Poppins Returns.
If all goes well, and there's no reason it shouldn't, Miranda could join a lot more Disney projects moving forward, establishing a big name for himself in the movie industry as he did on Broadway. And also, establishing a big name for himself on Disney XD.
