The Alien franchise is one of those movie licenses that lends itself very well to video games due to the sole fact that you have Aliens, Androids and Space Marines not to mention one of the most iconic movie monsters of all time. Now of course the franchise did not start this way, the first Alien was originally more of a horror movie and many would consider it one of the few Space movie franchises that proved successful outside of Star Wars and Star Trek spawning multiple sequels and spin offs. Not to mention the upcoming [Prometheus 2](movie:512281)!
Fast forward to today, and now we have a video game on the horizon that will act as a sequel to the 1979 classic "Alien" before the all the high powered rifles, Space Marines and Exo Suits, this game aims to capture the terror presented in the original movie as well as continuing the narrative that was established.
In this sequel, we follow Ellen Ripley's daughter, Amanda Ripley as she tries to discover what happened to her mom. The game studio seems to be taking this game very seriously both from a story perspective and a game play perspective and with positive word of mouth so far, it seems poised to make waves as a survival horror game and as a sequel to one of the most successful and groundbreaking science fiction movies in history.
With Hollywood's reluctance at times to make sequels, is it a stretch to think that these movies narratives could be continued in video games much the same way that novels and comics do? I for one see a lot of potential here and am excited to see where this sequel goes as we return to that world which the original Alien movie crafted filled with fear, suspense, horror and isolation.
