Sci-fi can be a tricky thing. Take it too far towards action and you end up with a Transformers movie. Take it too far towards the dense, meaty substance of old school Asimov novels, and it's unwatchable.
That sweet spot, right in the middle, though?
That's gold, right there.
Hoping to follow in the footsteps of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Brazil and - more recently - Looper, the Spierig brothers-directed Predestination is now on its way to our screens. With a bit of luck - and from the looks of the trailer below - it might just be the sort of accessible, intelligent sci-fi we're all always waiting for:
Starring Ethan Hawke, Noah Taylor and the reportedly tremendous newcomer Sarah Snook, the film is based on a Robert Heinlein short story which - if we were to tell you any more about it - would almost certainly ruin some of the plot.
Suffice to say it's going to be a bumpy, twisty, sci-fi-y ride.
