Nostalgia is a wonderful thing. Remember that song about a girl and a boy who texted each other about breaking up but never did, then all of a sudden they go to a club and dance and are kind of back together but not really?
“All I Ever Wanted” by Basshunter was a massive hit back when I was a freshman in high school, and believe me, the hype was real.
We all loved Basshunter for many different reasons, but me in particular, it was because of three things really: the #music, the music videos and the model in all of Basshunter’s videos, actress Aylar Lie.
Basshunter's Music Is Catchy AF
Basshunter’s beats are perfection. Best thing about them is that he makes them. Yup, when I found out Basshunter produced his own beats and wrote his own lyrics AND sang his own songs, he became one of my music idols. He did it all and that was the direction I wanted to take.
I started producing music by the time I discovered Basshunter, but what truly made me a Basshunter fan was his catchy and often simple hooks.
“DotA” was one of my favorite songs back in high school and though I didn’t know what he was saying, since the song is in Swedish, I loved it nonetheless. That is true for every other of his songs. They are just extremely catchy and have a vibe that’s really hard to describe. Just listen to one of Basshunter’s songs and you'll see what I'm talking about!
The Music Videos Tell A Connected Story
Little did I know that Basshunter was telling a story with his music videos. Every music video connects to the other, proving that Basshunter did the connected universe trend first than Marvel Studios!
It’s funny indeed, but once I figured out that all of his videos told a connected story, I was deeply embedded in them. I wanted to know what happened next, so it became almost like an electronic music soap opera. Seriously, no kidding. I don’t like soap operas by the way, but Basshunter had me hooked.
Rather than telling you the story, you should experience it yourself in the YouTube playlist above.
How awesome is that!
Aylar Lie Was Every High School Student's Celebrity Crush
I don’t remember all celebrity crushes us high school freshmen had in 2010, but I do know that Aylar Lie was definitely one of them. She is beautiful, stunning and dances like a maniac. My eyes had seen Earth’s prettiest model. I’m not sure if I was in love, but boy oh boy, I wanted to marry her!
The man in the video that’s always messing up the relationship became really annoying that I even wanted to replace him. If he can’t sustain a relationship with a woman as beautiful as Aylar Lie, then I could definitely do better. #Basshunter himself later replaced the guy as the boyfriend. Though, I still wanted to marry her. :D
Basshunter Still Rocks
Basshunter was every high school student’s favorite electronic music artist back in the day. His music was awesome, his music videos were fantastic and his main model stole the show every time.
I still listen to Basshunter and his new music, but nostalgia wins always. I guess the oldies never die.
