Here's a case of fact being way stranger than fiction. A Texan actress, who had roles in The Walking Dead and The Vampire Diaries, has been thrown in jail for trying to assassinate President Obama.
Shannon Guess Richardson, from Texarcana, received an 18-year jail sentence for sending ricin-laced letters to the US President as well as the Mayor of New York, before then trying to pin the crime on her husband.
Prosecutors say the 36-year-old mother of six, mailed six letters to the intended targets, before going to police and claiming her husband, who had recently filed for divorce, was responsible.
She'd ordered castor beans online and learned how to process them into a substance used to make ricin. To implicate her husband she created an email address, paypal account and a post office box in his name to pay for the beans and get them delivered.
Then, on the morning of May 20, 2013, Richardson waited for her husband to go to work before putting her plan into motion:
After he left the house, I printed the mailing labels for President Barack Obama, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Mark Glaze with The Raben Group.
At the time, Glaze was director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Bloomberg's group advocating for tougher gun control, and it's clear from the letter she wrote to Obama that this was the reason behind her attempted assassinations:
Here's what she wrote:
What's in this letter is nothing compared to what ive got in store for you mr president. You will have to kill me and my family before you get my guns. Anyone wants to come to my house will get shot in the face.
Whether she talking about the gun in the image below is unknown...
Luckily her threats never came to fruition and her assassination attempt was thwarted.
Just in case you want to know how bad ricin poising can be, here's Walter White to explain:
Is 18 years in jail a fair sentence?
