Sometimes I play video games.

With E3's major press conferences now over, it's time to let the dust clear and take a look at the plethora of spectacular new games that will be eating into our lives next year.

E3 2016's concerted focus on software seems to have been inspired by the game-hungry fans, with developers bringing back familiar franchises and introducing new interactive universes to explore. Be sure to keep the following titles on your radar -- these are some the most hotly anticipated games you'll be playing in 2017.

1. For Honor

Platforms: Xbox One, PC

Release Date: February 14, 2017

For Honor looks like the unforgiving Game of Thrones combat simulator we've been patiently waiting for. Described by its developers as capturing "The Art of Battle," the game recreates pseudo-historical conflicts, letting you take control of medieval knights, samurai, and Vikings.

2. Horizon: Zero Dawn

Platforms: PS4

Release Date: February 28, 2017

Guerrilla Games' open world action RPG left the E3 audience's mouth agape for the second year running. In this gameplay demo we got another glimpse of the setting's strange cyborg creatures as protagonist Aloy made good use of her archery skills to bring the robots crashing down.

3. Prey

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Release Date: 2017

A few years ago a sequel to 2006's sci-fi shooter Prey promised a cyberpunk RPG experience that got fans and critics excited about a dormant franchise previously lost to video game history. That project was soon scrapped, with another game from Arkane Studios stepping into its place. Simply titled Prey, this is set to be "a reimagining of the IP" and, from the first cinematic trailer, looks like a future-set, Orwellian nightmare. This is most definitely one to watch.

4. Crackdown 3

Platforms: Xbox One, PC

Release Date: 2017

Sorry agent, Crackdown 3 has been delayed until next year. Dave Jones, the game's Creative Director explained the reasons for pushing it to 2017:

"Our top priority is to give gamers an experience they have never seen before at a scale never thought possible, and sticking to our original timeline would have compromised that goal."

Good things -- like mass-scale multiplayer destruction -- come to those who wait, I guess.

5. Halo Wars 2

Platforms: Xbox One, PC

Release Date: February 21, 2017

The real time strategy Halo spin-off is back, with a spectacular CG trailer to boot. Lead an army of Spartans, Warthogs, and grenade-happy marines as you take on the alien threat. Check out Microsoft's synopsis below:

In Halo Wars 2, the Spirit of Fire and her crew, led by Captain Cutter, face a deadly new faction known as The Banished. Their chief, the Brute warlord Atriox, is both a deadly warrior and brilliant military leader in control of a massive army. The key to victory is knowing your enemy, but Atriox is a threat no one is prepared for.

6. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Release Date: January 24, 2017

This year Capcom's legendary horror franchise breaks new ground, offering a virtual reality experience sure to unnerve even the most veteran zombie-slayers out there. You can experience a slice of the upcoming game right now by downloading the PlayStation demo, titled Beginning Hour. Resident Evil 7 will be entirely playable with PlayStation VR when it releases early next year.

7. State of Decay 2

Platforms: Xbox One, PC

Release Date: 2017

You didn't think the zombies were done, did you? State of Decay 2 looks to build upon the strengths of its original to create an intense survival experience. Work together to build your ragtag community, or take on the wasteland alone. Regardless of your preferred survivalist tactics, this is one post-apocalyptic playground you'll be dying to explore.

8. Motive Studio's Star Wars Game

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Release Date: 2017

Rumors previously indicated that the team at EA Motive were working with former Uncharted director Amy Hennig to help develop an original, single player Star Wars experience. We got a brief look at that project during EA's press conference.

Despite looking pretty damn incredible, that game is likely still a couple years off. However, Motive has confirmed that it’s also working on a Star Wars Battlefront sequel. Here's hoping they'll inject some compelling single-player content into that game, too.

9. Tekken 7

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC

Release Date: Early 2017

Bandai Namco's long-running fighting franchise returns in spectacularly over-the-top fashion. Expect new stages, costumes, items, characters and a delightfully absurd story mode.

10. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Platforms: Xbox One, PC

Release Date: March 2017

Ghost Recon is expanding its tactical squad-based action, moving into a massive, fully-explorable open world. The freedom to approach missions in a multitude of ways is reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid V, except this time you get to pilot the escape chopper. The game also supports four-player co-operative multiplayer, so you and your friends can sync up to devastating effect.

11. Scalebound

Platforms: Xbox One, PC

Release Date: 2017

With 'Scale' right in the title, we should hardly have been surprised when the 100 foot enemy crab demon invaded Microsoft's press conference demo. An action RPG developed by PlatinumGames, Scalebound promises insane boss fights, tactical combat and visually arresting environments.
