After watching Rogue One, I was really intrigued with the choice in using a CGI Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia! It was very believable and made me do a double take. But this wasn't the first time that CGI was used to not only make the actor look younger, but to also bring back a deceased actor.
Jeff Bridges was able to play the young and old Kevin Flynn and even the villain Clu in the movie TRON: Legacy. I remember seeing this for the first time thinking they did a really good job in making a young version of Jeff Bridges! It kinda reminded me of the Shrek movies!
Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys
Arnold Schwarzenegger's scenes from the original Terminator were used for the most recent movies.
Oliver Reed played Proximo. Due to his death, they had to create a CGI version of him to work with the story, as he was one of the key characters in the film.
Due to Paul Walker's untimely death his brothers Caleb and Cody Walker stood in as one of the stunts. CGI was used to make them look like Paul Walker.
Michael Douglas' character
Captain America: Civil War
In Civil War Robert Downey Jr.'s character did a memory simulation with the advance technology that he had. In that scene we were able to see a young Tony Stark.
The Mummy Return
Dwayne The Rock Johnson played the Scorpion King, but we only got to see him at the very beginning of the movie. His CGI counterpart had a bigger role close to the end of the movie.
With so many CGI being used in place of real actors, especially in Rogue One, it makes me wonder... what are they going to do with the Han Solo film? It was already announced that Alden Ehrenreich is going to play the young Han Solo and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Granted that they will obviously play the younger versions of their characters, but are their characters going to be enhanced by CGI?
The reason I ask this is because in place of Princess Leia in Rogue One, they used a different actress and used a CGI head of a younger looking Carrie Fisher to mask the actress. They did the same thing in Civil War with a young Tony Stark and also in Ant-Man for a young Hank Pym.
Granted that the Han Solo movie may take place between Rogue One and A New Hope, and the characters will look different when they're younger... But Harrison Ford has a very distinct look that makes him stand out as an actor.
I don't know about you, but I don't see any similarities between the two. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Ehrenreich is a great actor, but he he just doen't look the part. I think the only way that he could pull it off is by getting a makeup treatment like what Joseph Gordon-Levitt did in the movie Looper when he was trying to look like a younger Bruce Willis.
I personally think that Anthony Ingruber from The Age of Adaline would be a better fit for the casting as the young Han Solo. I mean he DID play the young Harrison Ford in that movie.
Jamie Costa is another actor who could be Han Solo! He even help make a fan made short about Solo's search for Chewbacca called Han Solo: A Smuggler's Trade.
You can see the short below!
I think even my dad could pull off a good Harrison Ford look-alike!
My question is will we be seeing more CGI enhanced actors in place of real life actors in the new Star Wars movies? If so, will it be used in the Han Solo stand alone movie?
Let me know what you think about CGI replacing real actors?
