Viewers were left in awe last season when Teddy Sears's Zoom was captured by the time wraiths and transformed into the speedster incarnation of death: Black Flash. His surprising appearance during the Season 2 finale brought about speculation that we could see Black Flash return in future seasons and storylines. Now Teddy Sears has stated that he would love to return as Black Flash somewhere down the (time)line.
Sears recently sat down with TV Guide and was quizzed about the possibility of a Black Flash appearance:
“Zoom has been transformed into Black Flash, who has quite a place in the mythology of The Flash. He’s like the grim reaper for speedsters. Andrew Kreisberg, the head writer and EP, has talked about their interest in having a Black Flash return at some point in the series.”
While not giving a definitive yes or no answer, Sears has revealed that there are already talks of bringing Black Flash into the series at some point. While seeing Sears return as Black Flash would be great, he does go on to state that his contractual obligations over at Fox could become a problem.
"It would be a lot of fun to drop back into that world. We’ll just have to see if the guys on the other end feel the same way. It sounds like they do, but it’s funny – now I belong to Fox, so there’s lots of people that would have to give a thumbs up. But I really hope so.
SSears is playing one of the main characters on the upcoming FOX series 24: Legacy, which is set to debut February 2017. Considering that shooting will most likely be set outside of Vancouver, the chances of seeing Sears return as Black Flash this season are very slim.S
While Sears is unlikely to return to the role anytime soon, the show may actually not require his acting skills. As shown at the end of Season 2, Black Flash is comprised entirely of CGI. If The Flash did decide to bring back Black Flash without the involvement of Teddy Sears, they could easily use a full CGI rendering of the character - unless it was for a multi-episode story arc.
With Sears confirming that there have been talks of bringing back Black Flash, and him subsequently voicing his desire to return, it will only be a matter of time before we see the character return to the Arrowverse. Whether he will be portrayed by Teddy Sears or not is yet to be seen.
