This episode did very well for a mid-season finale. Alex receives blow after blow, both figuratively and literally and in the end, discovers something that will shake her whole world.
The episode begins with Ryan and Alex trying to get their freak on back on the farm but they are interrupted by a call from Nimah. Alex realises she is not wanted at the meeting and starts to wonder why she hasn't heard from Shelby. Honestly they were being way too shady about it if you ask me. Can you imagine being shut out like that? Wow. Alex eventually does hear from Shelby but it's a pretty crappy lie and Alex sees right through it. She eventually takes some initiative and follows Nimah who unknowingly leads her to Shelby's undercover home. There, they have no option but to tell her the truth and to sum it up Shelby tells her that she "didn't cut it." Just like that. That would be hard for anyone to take in but especially Alex. We all know how desperately she loves to get the job done so hearing that she failed and is being removed from the mission is not going to go down well, and it didn't. Later that night, Miranda pays her a visit to officially tell her she's off the case and that she has a job waiting for her at the FBI but like expected she turns it down. Alex pretty much tells Miranda to sod off and that she's going to stay at the farm and figure out who the AIC is. You go girl!
Speaking of the AIC, Ryan gets his first mission and it's to kidnap an old man from a park and take him to some abandoned warehouse. Ryan clearly isn't comfortable. You can see it written all over his face, but it's the mission. A mans got to do what a mans got to do. After he ties up the man, he's then asked to leave. Later that night he's told to go to a meeting point, and there he finds Dayana and Leon. At least now we know who the other recruits are. The three are sent videos and each video shows what each of them did. Ryan kidnapped, Leon killed and Dayana cleaned up. They then get a text saying that now they can be trusted, but if they should step out of line, they would be killed. It's understandable that after something like this, they would need to go back home. To whomever they consider home. Leon goes straight to Shelby, who plays her role very well and is comforting and understanding. Excuse me but if I was seeing a guy for a few months and he showed up at my house in the middle of the night telling me he just killed a man and had blood on his hands, I WOULD NOT JUST GIVE HIM A HUG. Best believe I would have questions. I'm sorry but I just didn't buy it. I know that's what she had to do but still. Ryan on the other hand goes home to Alex. Guys...we got a proposal. It finally happened. Ryan gets down on one knee and tells Alex that he would legit drop everything for her and that she's his home. Okay maybe not in those exact words but that was the gist of it. Of course Alex said yes.
In the present, Alex, Sebastian, Harry, Leon and Dayana manage to make it to the bunker. There Alex calls Shelby and they all agree that they need to destroy the bio weapon. Very conveniently, they find a gas cylinder and with that Alex, Harry and Sebastian make their way to the roof. They find the weapon but it's not a mass weapon of destruction but a suicide failsafe. With this new discovery, they're unable to destroy the weapon and so head back down to find a way to tell Shelby but they are intercepted by the terrorists. She fights with the one that took her and manages to unmask him, only to find out that it's the love of her life, RYAN. Okay writers, what are you trying to play at here? This is what I think is going on. I think Ryan is still undercover. He joined the AIC to take them down from the inside. That's the only thing that makes sense. On the farm this week, they were told to burn bridges with the one person that could not let go. We've seen the way Alex can be. She is that master of not letting things go. We also know that in the present, the two have broken up. now I think that Ryan burnt his bridges with Alex because he really needed to focus on infiltrating the AIC. This may have been a case where the mission was more important so he had to prioritise. I refuse to accept that Ryan freaking Booth is a terrorist. No way.
Elsewhere in the episode, speaking of burning bridges, back on the farm Lydia burns bridges with her father. After Owen asks her to stay for thanksgiving and promises to drop his crusade, the first chance he gets he goes through her things. She gives him the information he wants which is not what he was hoping for, that he really just did get burned, and with that she leaves. If you were wondering what happened to Harry, he goes back home to London for thanksgiving and is staying with Charlotte. She is apparently the sister of Elliot and also his handler. Clearly there is more to that story because he hands her a coded note, which she tosses into the fire right before her husband comes back into the room. As if that wasn't enough, Harry tries to leave in the middle of the night but is caught by Charlotte's husband. The two then have a conversation about something I'm not too sure about but was definitely about Elliot. Hopefully we'll find out more because I have no clue what that was all about. In the present, Nimah finally comes face to face with her sister and tries to convince her to join the CLF. She tells Raina that the CLF is trying to fight for freedom because America doesn't have real freedom. Okay Nimah, you preach about freedom while you sister is tied to a chair being held hostage. Hahah, okay.
This was probably one of the best episodes of the season. There was suspense, a lot of it made sense and at least I know now what the CLF is all about and what they're trying to achieve.
