Blake Lively has been a busy women since her last big screen film, The Shallows ─ which saw the blonde bombshell duke it out with a shark. The former Gossip Girl is set to star in All I See is You and has been linked to star and produce CBS Films' The Husband's Secret ─ a movie adaption of the book written by Liane Moriarty. Now THR has reported that Lively will star in The Rhythm Section, an espionage thriller from the team behind the last eight James Bond films, EON Productions and IM Global.
The film will be directed by Hulu's critically acclaimed The Handmaiden's Tale director, Reed Morano, and #BlakeLively will play the lead, Stephanie Patrick. Producers Michael G. Wilson (EON Productions) and Barbara Broccoli (IM Global) expressed their excitement to work with both Lively and Morano on the upcoming project set to begin filming this fall:
“It is exciting for us to be working with the immensely talented team of director Reed Morano and Blake Lively who have a strong vision for this very compelling story driven by a female protagonist.”
The Rhythm Section is the first of four books from author Mark Burnell's series which follows Stephanie Patrick, a woman whose family dies in plane crash she was meant to be on, consequently sending her on a self destructive path. After finding out the crash was no accident ─ she is driven by her anger and a new sense of purpose to become an assassin in order to track down those responsible for the death of her family.
According to Variety, EON Co-founder Stuart Ford expressed his thoughts about bringing Burnell's work to life with such a talented crew:
“In Stephanie Patrick, Mark has created a unique female heroine who turns so many of the current cinematic clichés surrounding so-called ‘kick-ass’ female leads on their head. To be bringing such a fresh, realistic, and bold international thriller to the big screen with EON Productions, Reed, and Blake is an exciting proposition for us all at IM Global.”
While fans of Blake Lively will have to wait her kick ass, her upcoming film All I See is You will hit theaters September 15, 2017.
