Forest Whitaker's days as a ragtag rebel aren't over yet. The Academy Award-winning actor will reprise his role as the voice of Saw Gerrera in Season Three of the animated series Star Wars Rebels.
Gerrera is set to appear in the two part episode entitled Star Wars Rebels: Ghosts of Geonosis, Parts One and Two. Saw Gerrera was first introduced in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars before making his live-action debut in Rogue One. Clone Wars and Rebels both taking place before the events of Rogue One.
Voiced by Andrew Kishino, the character debuted in the 2012 Clone Wars episode titled A War on Two Fronts where he was the leader of the Onderon rebels who fought against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. His story played out over the following three Season Five episodes.
In Rogue One Saw Gerrera is the leader of a extremist faction of the Rebel Alliance, and serves as a mentor for Felicity Jones' character Jyn Erso.
A new featurette teases Gerrera's role in Rebels as well as revisits his history in Clone Wars as the original rebel and his involvement in the creation of the Rebel Alliance.
When asked about Forest's work on Rebels, executive producer Dave Filoni said, "It's an incredible honor to have Forest Whitaker play Saw in Rebels. Forest did a great job at capturing Saw in a way that is a bit mad, a bit crazed, a bit afraid, but also a bit sympathetic. He sees something coming, but no one will take action before it’s too late."
Star Wars Rebels Ghosts of Geonosis Parts One and Two is set to air Saturday, January Seventh at 8:30 PM ET/PT on Disney XD.
