As huge as Avengers: Infinity War is already planned to be, Nebula actress Karen Gillan just made it a little bit bigger. Although it's no doubt that Nebula will play a big role in Infinity War being the adoptive daughter of Thanos, Nebula might play a much larger role than previously thought. Out of all the people you'd least expect to make friends in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Nebula is the last, but Karen Gillan revealed to Fandango that Nebula will have a very surprising BFF in the film, saying:
"I know who her new BFF is, and I can't tell you. I can't. I promise you it's brilliant and unexpected and just so good."
Almost instantly, people began theorizing about who this mysterious BFF may turn out to be. While most agreed that it was Vision, it's really hard to picture the film exploring the Scarlet/Vision romance and Vision's very probable death. While Vision was the most talked about, others said Spider-Man, and even Ant-Man as well. Although Ant-Man didn't appear in the poster and may not be playing a big role in the film, a friendship between the two would be hilarious.
That wasn't all Karen had to say. When asked about potential rivalries between Avengers and the Guardians, she said Nebula had bigger things to deal with, stating:
"Ooh... I don't know about any frenemies, she is on a clear mission, as everybody is, to deal with someone with a glove [like we don't know it's Thanos], and I think that is the most important issue. So I think people are grouping together to take care of this task."
Nebula and Gamora's love/hate relationship has been a key part of both Guardians films and it looks like the two sisters have ended their jealousy for the better of the universe. However, the question remains: Who is this mysterious BFF of Nebula? Well, here's a few possibilities.
A mixture of Peter Parker's young, spirited and humorous wit would be a perfect foil for #Nebula. We can already picture Nebula annoyed by all of his questions about how she is alive yet made of robotic parts, similar to what Ned did to Peter in school.
Spider-Man would be an absolute perfect match for the daughter of Thanos. However, almost every set photo of Avengers: Infinity War with Peter Parker shows him with Doctor Strange, and looks that the two of them might be become BFFs instead.
As far as unexpected goes, Iron Man would be a hilarious yet weird (in a good way) friend for Nebula, as Tony Stark would be a great way for Nebula to access new parts or repairs, and his rich, playboy alter ego may be attractive to Nebula as he gets the attention she never got.
While Iron Man will be playing a very important role in the film, their friendship would be the perfect comic relief in the midst of all the bad.
The Winter Soldier
For someone who has been experimented on and tortured, Bucky Barnes would be a perfect friend to fill Nebula's place of emptiness, understanding what it is like to be used. While comedy might not play a key role in the relationship, the two would make great companions (or even more), if they were to bond in #AvengersInfinityWar.
His bionic arm, the immense amount of pain and brainwashing he has been through would be a perfect fit for Nebula's situation, making her feel as if she isn't the only one with problems in the universe.
Avengers: Infinity War comes to theaters May 4, 2018.
