With the announcement that Amazon is producing a Lord of the Rings TV series I got to thinking of some other books(or series) I want to see adapt for the small screen, Here are my picks.
This young adult series by Eoin Colfer that follows the titular child genius and his interactions with elves, dwarves and other magical creatures is being adapt into a movie directed by Kenneth Branagh, but I wouldn't mind seeing a spin-off series that deals with the LEP or Lower Elements Police. Maybe make it a prequel to the series and follow a young Holly Short and some other new characters. I think J.K. Simmons, who played J. Jonah Jameson in the original Spiderman movies, would make a great Commander Root.
Pendragon: Journal of an Adventure through Time and Space
Pendragon by D.J. Mchale is another young adult fantasy series that follows Bobby Pendragon and his allies as they travel between different worlds to stop the evil Saint Dane.
I would like to see the ten book series made into to a movie series, but on second thought I think it might be better suited for a TV series with each season adapting two of the books(their plots kind of bleed together towards the end of the series). I would love to see Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, as the main villain Saint Dane.
The Bartimaeus Trilogy
The Bartimaeus Trilogy(and it's prequel) follows the dijinni Bartimaeus and his various adventures as a slave to various human magicians.
While the story-line from the books could work for a TV series I think a TV adaption should tell an original that takes place either before or after the events of the books. It could also work as an anthology series like American Horror Story that follows different adventures in Bartimaeus' thousand years-long career as a magical servant of human magicians.
The Godhead Trilogy
To be honest I just started reading the first book in the loosely-connected Godhead Trilogy and didn't even realize it was part of a trilogy, but I would at least like to see the first book Towing Jehovah, which follows the supertanker Carpco Valparaiso and it's crew as they tow the body of God himself to the Artic, adapted into a TV miniseries. Maybe even the Towing Jehovah mini-series does well they can adapt the other two books as well.
Those are my choice for some books I would like to see adapted into TV Series. What are some of your choices?
