This year the Star Wars franchise continues with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The holiday film begins a new chapter in the franchise as Rogue One is the first spin-off film in the Star Wars Story series. Yet despite the anticipation for this upcoming spin-off film, both fans and moviegoers are eager to see what is in store for Star Wars Episode VIII. Directed by Rian Johnson Episode VIII will be arriving next Christmas and continues the story started in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While there is still plenty of time between now and the film’s release, many are eager to get some form of content for next chapter in the Star Wars Saga in the near future. One of these things is none other than the first trailer to Episode VIII. There is no word on when a preview for Episode VIII will be released, but could there be a chance that the first teaser for the 2017 blockbuster may appear this year? From this adventurer’s perspective I do believe that there is a chance.
The best factor into this theory is looking at the first trailer to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Prior to the film’s release, the first preview to The Force Awakens was revealed on November 2014-13 months before the arrived in theaters. With just a few shots the preview got viewers talking as well as excited for the film. A teaser for Episode VIII would undoubtedly do the same thing. The studios could release the teaser at any time and it would be successful, but perhaps the sooner they release the trailer the better.
So if the trailer to Episode VIII is set to arrive this year, when would be best time to release it? The answer to that is quite simple. If a trailer for Episode VIII is set to arrive this year then the best time to reveal it would be none other than with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. People will already be talking about Star Wars, so why not give viewers even more to talk about then by including the Episode VIII teaser trailer. In my opinion the best way for the studios to market this is by attaching the trailer first to Rogue One and then hit the scene online. With the way things are these it is more likely that the trailer would be released online first and then be attached to Rogue One, but I think holding the teaser until the spin-off’s release would have a bigger impact on moviegoers and fans.
There is no telling just when the trailer to Episode VIII will hitting the scene as it is just as likely that we will not be seeing anything on this blockbuster until next year. Yet there is a possibility that moviegoers could get a sneak peak of the film this year, and if the trailer does appear then the best place to showcase Episode VIII is with its spin-off brethren\. Perhaps only the force knows when this preview will appear, but I think the sooner Lucasfilms releases the teaser to Episode VIII the better the momentum will be for the next chapter in the Star Wars saga.
Star Wars Episode VIII hits theaters on December 15, 2017 and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters on December 16th.
