Concept art shapes the monsters, the heroes and the villains we see on our movie screens each and every day. So come with us as we take a look into what is next...
This is in no way shape or form a fully comprehensive list of artists out there. These are simply images and personalities that have caught my eye while working recently within the industry.
I am a big gamer and movie fan, all of these images individually ignited some sort of spark within my imagination. The ability to spark an individual's imagination through images on a page alone is a talent all in itself. I just loved looking into the characters and environments showcased.
"Keep your feet on the ground, when your head is in the clouds," that is what my mother always used to tell me. Concept artist Finnian Macmanus must have been told the same thing as we see the latest in his video game concept art.
Finnian Macmanus has married together some truly beautiful environments that span the centuries, from ancient prehistoric monuments circumnavigated by Star Cruisers to worlds comprised utterly and completely by intermingling mechanical parts.
Finnian was commissioned last year by game developers working on both Sony and Xbox titles, Finnian was tasked with creating environments and concept pieces to help craft the direction of some of their 'major' titles.
Do you recognise any environments or characters in these images?
Stalenhag is a Swedish artist that specializes in what I would say to be 'retro-futuristic.' He often depicts images of once great machines left to rot in a variety of environments.
Stalenhag often draws what I presume to be space vehicles and equipment interspersed with modern day buildings and in some cases, even dinosaurs.
War of the Worlds? Jurassic Park theme? It's almost a merger of the two in the image below. The iconic scene with the T-Rex and the flare in the rain...
Anthony Sieben is what you might call a pure sci-fi fanboy. Since watching Jurassic Park as a child, Anthony got sucked into a world of 'what could be.' The world of sci-fi to Anthony quickly became a world of fantasy and fascination.
Belgium born and speaking more than three languages, Anthony is clearly a multitalented individual. Anthony grew up on LEGO and alien movies.
I would never have guessed that he has had a major alien influence...
Not only that, Anthony is a whizz on the the guitar and is a very well respected hip-hop dancer.
As I stated at the beginning, this is by no means a comprehensive list of pieces or artists. Just a brilliant selection of thought provoking pieces.
