While Marvel is pretty consistent at delivering what we want out of every single one of their blockbuster films, there's always room for ensuring that they give us everything on our wishlist because we as fans are naturally greedy. Now, we've already had the great trailers that we crave from the early marketing stages of this upcoming epic, like the one below.
But there's a whole lot more we're hoping to see. So, on the off chance Kevin Feige or Taika Waititi happens to read this, please put all of these things in Thor: Ragnarok!
1. A Great Villain!
Let's start off with one of the few things that Marvel maybe isn't so consistent at giving us. Hela looks like one bad-ass villain, but we've had this before where we think the villain looks incredible in the trailers for a Marvel film and then when the film is released we find out they're actually not as developed or cunning as we'd hoped for. As the first female Marvel villain, there is hope riding on Hela to be excellent and diabolical. Fortunately if you start a film by burning Asgard to the ground and destroying Mjolnir, it's hard to turn bad from there.
2. Actual Ragnarok!
Yep, I mean not the whole universe actually being destroyed, but it should come close. If Hela manages to destroy Asgard in the opening act and can't at least release a little fire demon action, it'll be a pretty disappointing bit of planning on her behalf. We've already had Surtur all but confirmed in the trailers and marketing, so let us hope he gets released for a proper beat down with Thor and Hulk. If they wanted to throw in the Asgard Serpent too, that would also be awesome. Frankly, since it's called Thor: Ragnarok, this one should kind of go without saying.
3. A Buddy Cop Film!
I almost inherently trusted Taika Waititi with this film when I first heard about it possibly being a buddy cop film for Thor and Hulk. He's got the wit and charm to pull something like that off perfectly, and the idea of these two paling around the universe together is too epic to be passed up. Sure, we want a serious film with a lot of action and excellent disaster, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun and lean into the always brilliant relationship these two have had in Marvel films ever since the first Avengers.
4. The Jarnbjorn Axe!
We've seen Mjolnir go in the trailers, and if that tragedy has to come to pass then Thor is going to need a new weapon for the battles ahead. In Marvel Comics, when he lost Mjolnir at various times for one reason or another, Thor would often turn to the Jarnbjorn Axe as an alternative. It isn't Mjolnir, but it is a mighty weapon and we have to assume he will get it during Thor: Ragnarok because some concept art from Avengers: Infinity War has shown Thor fighting alongside Rocket Raccoon with what appears to be the Axe in hand.
5. A Real Hulk vs Thor Battle!
We've seen hints. Hulk likes to play rough with his teammates, and none more so than the God of Thunder. When they first met in The Avengers, there were sparks of a true battle on the SHIELD Helicarrier. But with the hints in trailers of a true fight between them, you've got to hope it is more than a quick few shots. Two heavyweights slugging it out in that arena could be an epic scene on the level of Captain America vs Iron Man, although Thor doesn't actually want to fight so I can't imagine we'll get anything quite on that level.
The film is called Thor: Ragnarok. There was a bit of backlash against Marvel for Captain America: Civil War because of a lack of consequence and death among the major heroes, and I personally don't have a huge problem with that, but this film is called Ragnarok so there really should be some kind of fallout from it. Whether Loki finally dies for real, Thor himself falls or there is a great number of deaths among Asgardians, there should be something permanent and lasting that we care about coming out of this.
I can't see him being left out. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 could have been a final stop for the mad Titan before Avengers: Infinity War, but it was so packed already and focused on it's own story that it wouldn't have made sense. If Hela is replacing Death as the obsession of Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe then it makes sense for him to show up at some point. Aside from that, there was an infinity stone left on Asgard, and we can only imagine if Hela destroys it that Thanos will quickly be in to pick up what he feels is rightfully his.
And that's all folks. There's a lot we're hoping to see from Thor: Ragnarok when it arrives in cinemas later this year, what are you hoping for? Let us know in the comments and check out other articles below!
