It has been 12 long years since Ewan McGregor played Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi; and since then we have yet to see our favorite blue-blade-wielding warrior on the big screen. But, since #Disney gained control of #Lucasfilm, and Star Wars spin-off films have been announced, we have been awaiting the announcement of a solo Obi-Wan film. There are many possibilities for this film as there are many years of Obi-Wan's life we have yet to see onscreen. #EwanMcGregor is the obvious fan choice to play Obi-Wan, as he was one of the highlights of the prequel trilogy.
What Time Period In The Star Wars Universe Could This Film Take Place?
Between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope there is a period of about 20 years that remains largely a mystery in the current #StarWars canon. We know that during this time Obi-Wan is protecting young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine, but what we don't know is what happened to him in those 20 years of supposed isolation.
Because the period of time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope is so extensive, there is an immense amount of opportunity for a solo film.
Why Would Disney Be Interested In Making The Film?
For one, Obi-Wan is an exciting character. Even among those who hate the prequel trilogy, Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan is a fan favorite. Now, Ewan McGregor is the perfect age to play a older version of our favorite Sith-crippling Jedi! In an interview with Business Insider, Ewan McGregor commented on whether or not he'd be up to reprise his most notable role:
“Listen, I have been asked about it a lot, to the point where it looks a bit like I’m sort of touting for work. I’ve been very open to say I’d be happy to do it, if they want to do it.”
The good news is that Ewan McGregor is up to reprise his role as #ObiWanKenobi. And why not make the film? Obi-Wan is a fan favorite among Star Wars fans, and Disney is already making a film surrounding the origins of our favorite intergalactic smuggler, Han Solo!
Overall, this is the perfect time for Disney to start planning a solo Obi-Wan film. The time is right, the actor is ready, the fans are excited and the material is there. Everything seems to be set! Now, we wait.
What do you think? Should Ewan McGregor reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi?
