...e Nazis started using it . But I don't think it would be wrong to refer to it as 'the Nazi symbol' in a particular context. The meaning of symbols changes over time and depend on the context. Whilst you are correct that the inverted cross was the cross of Saint Peter (owing to Peter having been crucified upside-down) , in popular culture it is now primarily associated with satanism.
