A lot has changed since Harry Potter took down his snake-featured nemesis in the Battle of Hogwarts: Professor McGonagall has been made Headmistress, Neville Longbottom is teaching Herbology, and every character you loved within the franchise has hooked-up, donned a fusty hairstyle and spawned a brood of budding witches and wizards. But that's not all — there's something about this length of time that makes 2017 such a poignant year for three of the OGs' offspring.

Quick witted fans will already be doing the sums, but here's a little reminder for those of you scratching your bonk. Although the dates are rarely specified within the franchise, a party held in the second book, The Chamber of Secrets, is a commonly used flag-point for understanding when everything is going down: Nearly Headless Nick's 500th deathday party. Here we learn that he died in 1492, placing their current day in 1992. The seventh and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, wraps in the spring — so the Battle of Hogwarts takes place in 1998.

What that means is that it has now been 19 years since He Who Must Not Be Named was obliterated, and a quick skip back to the epilogue will tell you this number's significance. This is the year Harry & Ginny Potter, Ron Weasley & Hermione Granger, and Draco & Astoria Malfoy send three of their little mites off to Hogwarts for the first time.

Leaving little Lily-Rose Potter and Hugo Granger-Weasley behind (they have a few more years to go until they can tag along, unfortunately), the nervous newbies bundle aboard to join James Potter (Harry & Ginny's elder son) and Victoire Weasley (Bill & Fleur's daughter) on the Hogwarts Express.

And the rest, as it turns out, is documented in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play, which picks up directly after the finale.
