With Peak TV upon us, there is a lot of television to watch these days and quite a lot of sci fi and fantasy shows to select from. By my current count there are over 100 (!) currently airing, return, and upcoming genre shows through Summer of 2017 (you can see the full list here), and the number keeps growing. Here is a rundown of all the shows that will be airing in January, and you can see the full Mid-Season schedule through March at this link. Note that some of these premiere / return dates are tentative at this time and can be changed with little or no notice.

January 2017

Mondays

Season Premiere:

Shadowhunters: Freeform, 8 PM EST, Season 2 Premieres January 2nd

About: Based on the Mortal Instruments books, this series picks up the story from the second book City of Ashes which follows after the events of the City of Bones feature film.

Beyond: Freeform, 9 PM EST, Series Premieres January 2nd

About: A young man wakes up from a coma after 12 years and discovers new abilities that propel him into the middle of a dangerous conspiracy.

Supergirl: CW, 8 PM EST, Returns from hiatus January 23rd

Gotham: FOX, 8 PM EST, Returns from hiatus January 16th (Tentative)

Lucifer: FOX, 9 PM EST, Returns from hiatus January 16th (Tentative)

The Flash: CW, 8 PM EST, Returns from hiatus January 24th

Legends of Tomorrow: CW, 9 PM EST, Returns from hiatus in a new timeslot January 24th

Season Premiere:

The Magicians: Syfy, 9 PM EST, Season 2 Premiere January 25th

About: This fantasy series based on the book series by Lev Grossman follows the students of Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy who learn to use their magical powers while also dealing with mystical threats that challenge their abilities.

Returning:

Arrow: CW, 8 PM EST, Returns from hiatus January 25th

Frequency: CW, 9 PM EST, Returns from hiatus January 4th (Season finale January 25th)

Salem: WGN, 9 PM EST, Returns from hiatus January 4th (Series finale January 25th)

Incorporated: Syfy, 10 PM EST, Continues from Fall (Season finale January 2th)

Thursdays

Season Premiere:

Colony: USA, 10 PM EST, Season 2 Premieres January 12th

About: In the near future, aliens have taken over the earth and cordoned off most of the major cities. The series focuses on ex-Army Ranger Will Bowman and his wife Katie as they must make difficult choices to keep their family safe while also resisting the occupation.

Returning:

Supernatural: CW, 8 PM EST, Returns from hiatus in a new timeslot January 26th

The Good Place: NBC, 8:30 PM EST, Returns from hiatus January 5th (Season finale January 26th)

Fridays

Season Premiere:

Grimm: FOX, 8 PM EST, Season 6 Premieres January 6th

About: This show is back for its sixth and final season as Nick Burkhardt makes a last stand against the supernatural forces he has been destined to do battle with.

Emerald City: NBC, 9 PM EST, Series Premieres January 6th

About: In this re-imagining of the Wizard of the Oz mythology, a modern-day Dorothy finds herself carried over a much darker rainbow where she is cast into the middle of a power struggle in that fantasy land.

Sleepy Hollow: FOX, 9 PM EST, Season 4 Premieres January 4th

About: In this show's fourth season, Ichabob Crane moves to a new city and finds a new partner to continue battling the supernatural forces that threaten our world.

MacGyver: CBS, 8 PM EST, Returns from hiatus on January 6th

Vampire Diaries: CW, 8 PM EST, Returns from hiatus January 13th

A Series of Unfortunate Events: Netflix, Series Premiere January 13th

About: Based on the popular children's' books, this series focus on the three Baudelaire children who lose their parents in a mysterious fire and are then placed in the custody of the sinister Count Olaf who is scheming to uncover their dark family secrets.

Returning:

Voltron: Legendary Defender: Netflix, Season 2 Premieres January 20th
