Nick Fury has been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Tony Stark invented his Iron Man armor. While the man behind the Avengers is currently set to appear in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, he is reportedly not going to appear in Avengers: Infinity War or 4. Speaking with Yahoo Movies New UK, Jackson made it pretty clear Marvel had no plans to feature his character in either upcoming film:
“I wasn't in the ‘superhero argument’ movie [‘Captain America: Civil War’], I’m not in ‘Avengers 3 and 4.' They’re shooting them now, and they haven’t called me yet.”
I believe this is a big mistake on Marvel’s part for him not to appear. Hopefully Kevin Feige gives him a ring because it doesn’t make any sense for #NickFury not to show up in either Avengers film. Here are a few reasons why.
Nick Fury Is The Glue That Keeps The MCU Together
Nick Fury is the culmination of everything the #MCU has stood for. He’s the reason the Avengers came together in the first place and the only person believed in the Avengers Initiative and kept it going. He introduced himself to Tony Stark in the end-credit scene after the first Iron Man film, conducted his research into a rumored god in New Mexico, and stared right into the face of a man who had been frozen for 70 years. He also called up his best secret agents, ones whose loyalty was unquestioned, and was wise enough to get one of those agents to convince a scientist in hiding to join the team.
Though initially everyone fought for themselves, Fury was able to get the team of superheroes to work together to take down an alien threat in the first #Avengers film. It took some convincing to fulfill what he set out to do, but he did. And while Fury accomplished his original mission, he'll now need to do it again, and this time on a grander scale.
Only Nick Fury Can Advise The Avengers Successfully
The aftermath of #CaptainAmericaCivilWar disassembled the Avengers completely, with Tony Stark operating as the head of the public-facing Avengers team and Steve Rogers going underground with the MCU's version of the Secret Avengers. They are now in need of someone to once again bring the team together and Nick Fury would certainly be that man for the job.
With Thanos and his Black Order looming closer and closer to Earth, these heroes are going to need to once again work together. They will need someone to tell them to put aside their differences and to forget about what happened in the past. Fury needs to be that guy.
After Agent Coulson perished at the hands of Loki in #TheAvengers, Fury made it a point to use his death as a rallying point for the team. Here's what Fury had to say about his passion for green-lighting the Avengers Initiative:
"There was an idea, Stark knows this, called the Avengers Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of of remarkable people to see if they could become something more. To see if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could. Phil Coulson died still believing in that idea. In heroes."
In #AgeofUltron, Nick Fury gave another one of his speeches to help lift his team up. After Ultron had nearly torn the Avengers apart, Fury was there to be that connective tissue and bring the team back together. With his team down, Fury was able to pick them back up.
Fury Needs To Finish What He Started
Not having Nick Fury in the next two Avengers movies would be a crime and would seriously undermine everything he has done for the team, as well as his role in the MCU. It's like having a coach bring a team together to take them all the way to the championship game, then not show up for the big game. It just wouldn't make any sense and would be a detriment to the entire team. Fury has to come to play and help the Avengers take down Thanos and his Black Order when they finally arrive.
Fury has a tall task ahead of him. If there’s one man who could rally the troops up once again, it’s Nick Fury. He's done it before, and he can do it again. Fury needs to come out on top or his hard work on having created the Avengers Initiative will be all for naught. Let’s just hope we see him much earlier than just his confirmed role in Captain Marvel.
