I am a fifteen year old girl who is obsessed with Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat (not necessarily proud of it, but it’s true!). When I get on social media, I tend to always go through people’s posts, mostly celebrities. I will look at Ariana Grande’s, Kylie Jenner’s, and some other young stars who frequently post. Although, every time I scroll down their pages, I find myself thinking, “Why don’t I look like that?” “I wish I was that photogenic.” or “What I would give to live a life like hers.”.

When I catch myself saying these things, I begin to feel really down, and wish I would have just never looked. To some girls, they may look through and get some inspiration from their posts, and do things they probably know isn’t right, but if a beautiful, successful celebrity did it, what’s the harm? Some girls will try to make themselves into that specific celebrity because they think they’re perfect, and want everything they have. Kylie Jenner has done revealing photo shoots? Hmm, maybe I should grow up and do that so I can be successful.

The reason I’m writing this blog is because I don’t think anyone should try to make themselves into something they aren’t just so they can be just as loved as appreciated as a celebrity. Some of the most famous icons in today’s generation aren’t the best people for younger girls like myself to look up to. I’m not saying they are bad people, I’m just saying that some of the things they may promote or show to the world aren’t ideal, or appropriate. I have gathered up a few people who are celebrities who may be a better role model or influence on younger girls.

Sadie Robertson

Sadie Robertson is a nineteen year old girl who first began her fame from the hit television show, “Duck Dynasty”. She wasn’t in the show very often, but she really began doing her own thing when young girls began following her on social media. Sadie is someone who is very positive, and confident. She has a very kind heart and mind, and also has a humble personality. If those aren’t characteristics that make her role model worthy, I have more.

Sadie is very modest, and doesn’t show off her body in inappropriate ways, which is great when young girls see her, and notice that you don’t have to be half naked to be happy and successful. Sadie is also very giving. She has worked with a clothing brand named “Roma Boots” to help kids who live in poverty have a better future. The campaign is known as ‘Give Poverty the Boot.”. She has also shown how involved she is in her faith. On her social medias, she isn’t shy about telling others how much she loves God, and how much he loves us. She is a big believer is self love, and will often post pictures saying how she will have down days about herself, and that even if we don’t see perfection, God made us in his own form of perfection, and we should love ourselves completely just for that reason. Sadie is one of the most amazing role models, and I definitely look up to her a lot!

Zendaya is a celebrity known for modeling, and acting. When she was younger, she starred on the Disney Channel show called “Shake it Up” which was very popular, and that’s how I began to recognize her. She is still on Disney Channel for a show called “KC Under Cover.”. Zendaya is a girl who really embraces who she is, and radiates confidence. For young girls, it’s important for them to look up to someone who believes that everyone is amazing and beautiful, and that’s what Zendaya does. She believes in equality, and knows that everyone has worth.

Zendaya is a strong, independent girl who stands up for what she believes. There has been incidents where she has been edited from a photo shoot, and calls the editor out on it, and says she loves her body how it is, and doesn’t believe that she needs to be touched up and perfected to be beautiful. Also, a lady commented on Zendaya’s hair when she wore dreadlocks on a red carpet and said it looked trashy. Zendaya stood up for herself and posted a photo on Instagram saying how she loved her locks, and said that she doesn’t agree with what the lady said. When girls see a someone who is confident and sticks up for herself, I think that can be very motivating. Zendaya is a wonderful role model, and I’m glad there’s someone like her in the model/acting industry.

Alessia Cara

Alessia Cara is a 20 year old singer and song writer. Many of you may have heard her song “here” which is one of her most popular hits. The reason I picked Alessia Cara for this list is because of what her songs are about. ‘Here’ is about how she went to a party that was full of under age drinkers and teenagers who were gossiping and she says that being there didn’t make her happy, and that she’d much rather be at home with her closest friends just listening to music. Her song ‘Scars to Your Beautiful’ talks about how you shouldn’t change yourself to make society happy, and that the world should except you for who you are, and what you’ve been through.

Alessia is someone who is very much herself. She doesn’t really dress up, or doesn’t like to so when she preforms she wears what makes her feel comfortable, and what makes her happy. When she does that, it shows people that you shouldn’t worry what the society standards are, and that you can do what you believe in. Alessia is a great role model, and her music really shows that.

Grace Vanderwaal

Many of you may not of heard about Grace, but she was the winner of America’s Got Talent season 11. Grace is a 13 year old girl who is insanely talented. The reason I mainly chose her is because of how hard working, and talented she is. Nowadays, it’s common for celebrities to be auto-tuned, or have their voice edited so they can be perfected. Sometimes they become so edited, their talents don’t even shine through. With Grace, that isn’t the case. She has a wonderful voice and can play the ukulele. I think Grace really shows that you can do anything if you really put your mind to it.

Grace also writes her own songs, which have amazing lyrics. One of my favorite songs currently is by her, and it’s called ‘Beautiful Thing’. The song talks about how when you are with a certain person, you are happy, and completely yourself. It’s such an adorable song, and I think everyone should listen to it! So happy that Grace won America’s Got Talent, so now she can really begin showing others what she is capable of!

Those are some of my main amazing celebrity role models that I think people should look up to, especially young girls! I look up to all of these people, and I think they deserve all the recognition they may be getting. Let me know who you look up to, or if you have anything else you’d like me to write about! Much Love, Julianna
