Consuming movies, tv, music, etc. Sometimes writing about these things @rachaelkaines

Horror. A genre that can be equally as terrifying as it is entertaining. Horror movies can also often be formulaic and a total drag. To avoid wasting two hours of your life on a crappy horror movie, left feeling neither scared or entertained at the end of it, follow this handy guide below for what to watch tonight on Netflix.

The Wailing

This South Korean gem starts off as what feels like a strange, off-beat, black comedy. By the final scene (two and a half hours later - you have been warned) it is one of the most genuinely terrifying movies of recent years. It currently holds a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is definitely worth your time and attention this evening.

Watch if: You don't mind doing a bit of reading and being deeply, deeply disturbed.

Let The Right One In

This movie has a mere 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, but is a much shorter 114 minutes to The Wailing's 156 minutes, so I guess it is still worth your time. In all seriousness if you've missed this movie up until now, definitely consider giving it a spin. It is dark and slow moving, romantic, beautifully shot and full of 80s nostalgia.

Watch if: You want something truly original and you haven't caught this unusual bildungsroman before

The Babadook

A psychological horror that is beautifully open to interpretation, working as both a straight up monster horror and a much more twisted psychological horror. A directorial debut from Australian Jennifer Kent, this movie has a distinct style and is another movie with 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Watch if: You want to question your perception whilst simultaneously being fairly petrified.

What We Do In The Shadows

Directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi this documentary comedy horror (not a true horror, I know) is worth including because not only is it absolutely original, it is also easily one of the funniest movies on Netflix.

Watch if: You want to laugh until you burst blood vessels.

It Follows

What would appear to be the most ridiculous premise - a sexually transmitted curse which means someone will always be walking (and only ever walking) towards you - makes for one of the greatest horror movies made this decade. Definitely not to be missed.

Watch if: You want to be left genuinely chilled by a hilarious and unique concept.

Honourable mentions: Bone Tomahawk, Cabin In The Woods
