Any fan of #BetterCallSaul knows that the producers love to bring back classic characters from #BreakingBad. Tuco Salamanca, Hector “Tío” Salamanca, “the Cousins,” No-Doze, Gonzo, and Domingo “Krazy-8” Molina have made appearances so far, and the audience has been clamoring for an appearance by Badger, Skinny Pete, Hank Schrader, Huell, Jesse Pinkman, and of course, the big Kahuna: Walter White, AKA Heisenberg. Here are all the #BreakingBad Easter Eggs that have been in #BetterCallSaul so far:
While all those other character appearances are definitely possible, the one character we KNOW is coming is the evil Gus Fring, drug kingpin and everyone's favorite purveyor of fried chicken.
Who can forget his epic death at the hands of Heisenberg? Definitely one of the most memorable in the history of TV. Enjoy:
Season 2 Clues
Last season, the producers of #BetterCallSaul decided to drop what was, they thought, an obscure clue teasing the return of Gus Fring. The clue? The episode titles. Here they are:
- Gloves Off
- Bali Hai
Do you see it? Check out the first letter of each episode.
G loves Off
B ali Hai
It spells FRING'S BACK ! Very cool, right?
The producers thought it would be a great Easter egg for the fans, but it turns out that eagle eyed viewers figured it out way sooner than they expected. Here's what they had to say about it:
Peter Gould: We were hoping it would be more of an open question at this point. We had this—to us—this very bright idea of encoding the words “Fring’s Back” in the episode titles. We worked very hard; more than that, the folks in our office, Jenn Carroll and Ariel Levine, worked very, very hard trying to help us figure that out. And we thought we’d be revealing it maybe sometime over the summer. I guess we really underestimated the genius and hard work of our fans.
Vince Gilligan: And their attention to detail, and God bless them for it.
Gould: It’s hard to complain about people paying attention to every aspect of the show. It certainly reminds us again that we better keep all our i’s dotted and our t’s crossed in every aspect of the show.
So we've known for awhile now that Gus will indeed be on #BetterCallSaul. AMC confirmed it today by releasing a new teaser in the form of a new "commercial" for Los Pollos Hermanos, Gus Fring's fried chicken restaurant chain that serves as a front for his drug empire. Check it out:
Gus showing up at the end is totally hilarious! I half expected him to say, "If you don't like the curly fries, I'll slit your throat with a box-cutter!"
This makes me super stoked for Season 3 of #BetterCallSaul. I can't wait to see the beginnings of Fring's relationship with Mike and Saul - should be amazing!
