It's begun! The 2017 award season is in full swing and tonight, there is no doubt that there will be some surprises and high expectations.

Before the main event, you should know of 5 major films that you should keep an eye on throughout the season, especially tonight.

La La Land

This one is for the books, folks. La La Land stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in a story of creation and creativity. Not only does this story feature an impressive story line, it features an incredible, charming and quite frankly, beautiful soundtrack.

Nominated for Best Motion Picture, Best Performance By An Actress (and Actor) in a Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Original Song tonight (doesn't that tell you enough?!) I'm sure this won't be the last time we hear about the film itself.

After the death of his brother, the main character begins to foster his nephew. This film is a sad yet inspiring account of a bond within a family. Currently holding 5 nominations tonight, including Best Picture, this film will be mentioned a lot in the upcoming award season.

This Is Us

The inspiring, detailed and important TV show is sure to be awarded many awards this season. Currently holding 3 nominations tonight, the show is one you should check out, regardless of it's award winning this year.

The New York Times exclaimed that 'Moonlight' is 2016's best film.

Moonlight

Currently holding 6 nominations tonight, the film is sure to score big. The film discusses relevant issues about sexuality, violence and self identity and is one that will be considered for the ages.

Last, but not least...

Cuba Gooding, Jr. as O.J. Simpson

The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story

Currently holding 5 nominations and leading the pack for TV nominees, the series showcases the events surrounding O.J. Simpson's trial. The show has been praised for an accurate portrayal of the trial and the events before and after.

I am biased towards this show, of course, as Nina Jacobson (Producer of The Hunger Games series had much to do with the production elements. Good luck to the cast!)

These are 5 films/TV shows you should keep an eye on tonight and throughout the season. Feel free to share your picks as well below!
