Down the road, they might want to show WWII or, say, the 1960s at Downton and if you tell the audience that Downton survives everything perfectly intact, it kind of takes away from any potential spinoff story. I want the ghosts. Downton Abbey even suggests that ghosts exist (there's a sentence you wouldn't think one would ever write) as they played with the idea of the ghost of Lavinia moving the ouija board.
