Michael Jackson made short films not videos. The premiere of each release was always a monumental event that had everyone, young and old, excited with anticipation to see what he was going to do next. There is no comparison. Michael was in his own lane and he was electrifying to watch. He entertained us while teaching us history and social causes. Thriller was inducted in the National Film Registry as a national archive in 2009 (see quote below).
"Thriller" is the first music video in the archives. "I think it is a recognition of how much they changed the music industry in the '80s, and we thought it was important to represent that," said Stephen Leggett, the coordinator of the National Film Preservation Board. "We picked this one because it was most iconic from the era." #MJistheGOAT
