Let's face it. 'Jurassic World' was one the best films to hit the big screen in 2015. Why, you may ask? It gave everything an audience looks for in a great movie! Man-eating dinosaurs, check. Non-stop action, check. Hair raising moments, check. Chris Pratt training a squad of raptors, check. The list goes on! Lets take a moment at some details and see what we can expect for our highly anticipated sequel.
First, lets talk box office sales. As most of us have probably heard; 'Jurassic World' broke box office records with an explosive amount of $652.2 million domestic and $1.5 billion worldwide. It's good to know this because our new director (whom we'll announce shortly) can get an idea of what he's dealing with; due to the popularity of the film series, he can now know what the audience wants.
Our sequel begins production shooting in Hawaii for partial work on February 27, 2017 as the film expects to release sometime in 2018. Most of the film will be shot in London. So could this mean that inGen may be creating dinosaurs at a high tech military facility and dinosaurs escape as they test military specs; all while creating chaos in a big city? We shall see. At this time; it's probably safe to say that we will be seeing a trailer during the Super Bowl in February of 2018 and a possible release in June just as the last film. Watching closely; many other films have taken this route to build momentum of 'Anticipation' for it's fans to sink their teeth into. Not guaranteed, but it's a good place to start.
Up next is a look at our production team for the film. Colin Trevorrow has passed the torch to Director J. A. Bayona (2013, The Impossible) and his recent film (2016, A Monster Calls) were both a success with the audience. Even with not having a huge amount of experience in the film industry, there's no need to worry. Steven Spielberg has agreed to join J. A. Bayona and the rest of the team for the sequel as executive producer again; which will help some of you sleep better at night I'm sure. One thing we can love about our new director is that the man has a soft spot for animatronics. Here's what he told sources what he plans to do with them:
Obviously you don't have real dinosaurs — sometimes you have people playing dinosaurs — but we love animatronics and we're trying to do as much with them as possible," the director told The Hollywood Reporter at Wednesday's premiere of A Monster Calls.
However, that's easier said than done.
"It's complicated because the audience now is so used to seeing CGI that they're sometimes reluctant toward animatronics," he explained further. "But at the same time, I think animatronics bring soul and reality to it. We're trying to find the balance between animatronics and CGI in order to cheat the audience so they don't know what they're seeing."
If J. A. Bayona commits to his plans, he will have a film that provides realism just as the 1993 'Jurassic Park' that started it all. Now lets take a look at some of our few returning cast members:
- Chris Pratt / "Owen"
- Bryce Dallas Howard / "Claire"
- BD Wong / "Dr. Henery Wu" (RUMORED)
- Rafe Spall / Unknown
- Toby Jones / Unknown
- Justice Smith / Uknown
As you can see, the list is fairly small and it is still TBA if some of the actors from the film will be making a return to the screen or not but there's plenty of time. With all the information that's been gathered; we can be rest assured that the film is in good hands and sounds like another box office record breaker. We have plenty of things to look forward to with the sequel.
Get ready, sit back and:
